1)For this project we had to show something in motion. I chose pigs playing in mud. To show motion I have the two pigs jumping into the mud puddle and it shows the motion with making it look like the mud is splashing up as they are going in.
2)Textures made some things in project look a lot better. For example the grass I used a tool that made it really realistic and more like grass then just lines. Also in the fence the texture was used to make the wood look rough. 3)To make this project work we first had to find a good idea and then make tons of sketches to see how we want it to look and where everything should be placed. Before we could use the scratchboard though we have to draw it on a black sheet of paper then trace it on to the scratchboard. Their are a couple of steps but it definitely helped it balance and make it turn out as nice as it did. 4)To imply movement in my project I showed two pigs jumping into the mud puddle they were playing in. To make it look like they were jumping I added lines around their feet to show the mud splashing as the pigs are jumping in. 5)I could improve my artwork by not rushing as much. This would help me make more things stand out and not have everything kind of blend together. 6)I used values more in some places than others. with the clouds and the mud puddle and with the pigs I had some value transitions. The grass however is all the same shade and it blended in with the fence so I tried to brighten up the bottom of the fence pieces where the sun would be hitting to make it stand out a little more.

Self portrait1)To develop this drawing it took a lot of practice. We spent a day on every facial feature and placement. This helped during our final so we knew the measurements but the hard thing is getting it to look like you. 2)To get the different values I focused a lot on the shadows of my face and where the light hit my face that's where my highlights were. 3)I got a good range of values around the face really showing the shadows. but on the cheeks and forehead I feel like I could have put more value into it. Value is very necessary in this project because with your nose and lips its not flat so it makes it look lifted. 4)I feel that if I would have spent more time on blending and adding more values it would look more realistic and also more neatly done. 5)To capture my look it was easier to do that with having a photo reference. Even though I had a photo to rely on it was very difficult to actually draw what I see rather than what I think it looks like. 6)It was easier to have correct facial feature placement because we did spend a day in class learning where everything goes and gets placed on the face. During the process I also used this little paper to help with the measurement on the nose. That was helpful but my nose was still a little off. 7)It is very important to learn the facial features individually because they all have certain steps to make them look realistic. Also doing them all different days we got lots of practice with each. We would draw our neighbors and then draw our own and then with the nose and lips we did different angles. 8)I think everything about this unit was beneficial because I got to learn and practice drawing the correct way of all the facial features. Also learned how to make them look really realistic and the more you draw these the better you get. 9)One of my biggest obstacles was getting the shape of my eye right because that really is important in making the drawing looking like you. And everyone's eye shape is different but to overcome that I looked really closely to the picture and practiced more than the others and it got better. This is my practice of the lips. Something I didn't know before this was the line in the middle of your lip isn't straight it's kinda the same shape as the top of the lip. The key to drawing lips is having good value and leaving some highlights. The third one I drew was drawing the lips from a different angle and that was not as easy.
This is our practice for noses. We had to draw 3 different angles/views of the nose. I chose both sides and then one in front. Noses are very difficult to draw I feel like it's the hardest facial feature to draw. This is my opinion because it's really hard to get it to look realistic.
1) I feel my highlights are very bright and strong. My shadows could have popped more they kinda got mixed with the background. My background was also rushed i could have made it better.
3)For the peaches I had lots of warm bright colors for them to really stand out. I also added some brown with it and it blended very well together. I added blues and little bit of grey to the glass to add some shadows. 4)I created contrast from making the background darker so that the jar and the peaches stand out. I also made my highlights very strong and bright white to contrast from the rest of the peach. 5)For my background I made lines above the color so it shows some texture. I made the shadows lower than the peach so it shows that the peach is standing up and part of it is higher. I should have added more shadows on the jar because it has to much white and you can't see where the light is hitting. 6)I choose brown and white for my background color because they kinda go with the colors of the main parts of it. They don't mix too much that they take away from the peaches in the jars. 7)It was nice having practice with the clay pastel before I did this project. It helped show me that the shadow works very well when you mix grey and white. Also I picked clay over prisma for this project because it gives more of a realistic color to it and not so bright. I also liked how easier it is to blend clay than prisma to add more different colors in. 8)I could have drawn something in my background instead of just colors. I also wish i made my glass look more realistic by not adding so much white and maybe adding some other colors to show the opacity. This was good practice on opacity and was helpful for our next project. For this activity we had candy laying on a sheet of paper and we had to draw it. The plastic wrapping was very challenging. One thing that helps is adding all the white highlights and maybe even more first to really show the shiny plastic. Another thing that was challenging was to match the colors because chalk doesn't have as big of a variety as prima does. I thought i wouldn't like chalk but it was actually easier to blend and I like how It's more pastel like and not so vibrant like prima.
reference photo and sketches1) I created an interesting view point by making the giraffes nose bigger than his head/his body. I do like the way it turned out but I think it could have been more successful if I exaggerated how big the nose was more.
2)It is important to understand perspective because the part of the object that you are changing really makes it stand out and chases the eye of whoever is looking at it. It is important to know how to draw it because if you don't emphasis it enough it could ruin your whole piece. 3)The color pencils exercises were important because they gave you practice on how the colors blend and how to layer them correctly. The color pencils take longer because you do have to add lots of layers but it really makes your object stand out. 4)I used layering and that takes longer but it helps blending and you can add more colors in. All blended really well except the right ear I added a lot of black first and i couldn't go over it cause I did it too dark so when your layering you definitely want to do all your lights first and then add a little of your darks last and blend. 5)I created depth showing behind the nose a little darker kind of a shadow and also on my background around the head and some of the neck I tried to add a darker green. For my background I used cool colors because my piece is mostly warm colors so I thought it would make a good contrast and really make it stand out. 6)Some obstacles using color pencils is trying to finish layering and their still be some white spots it took lots of time to get everything colored. Blending does take awhile but the colors are very bright and really make the piece stand out. 7)I feel I was prepared and practiced colored pencils a lot before this project. I think it would have been better if we had a mini practice with foreshortening before. But it didn't take long to figure out how to draw it. For this drawing we were given a box with a different type of glass form in it. The box was also covered with different colored construction paper so we had colors reflecting off our glass. Glass is very difficult to draw and also the vase we got didn't have that much to add with detail so it was hard to make it look realistic. I feel like I could have added another layer to make it looked more blended to together.
